Due to illness only 4 members managed to make the start date of Saturday 4th May.
An early start enabled us to catch the 1.30 p.m. Tunnel shuttle to Sangatte and then on to the Mercure Reims Cathedrale hotel - in time to unpack and change for Dinner.
Sunday was spent sightseeing in Reims in good weather.
For the rest of the week the weather was not always so kind but still we enjoyed visiting the Ardennes and following the River Meuse, and being shown the way to Epernay by the Lighthouse (yes a full-size lighthouse) a Windmill and twisted trees. Laon was only seen through a storm but the French still carried out their Liberation remembrance ceremony
We also managed to fit in Chateau Thierry, Fismes, the former Formula 1 circuit at Gueux which was run on ordinary roads, and the Reims Champagne Automobile Museum and the War museum (where the surrender was signed for WW2), an American WW2 memorial and a Russian WW1 memorial.
Not forgetting the millions of vines producing bubbly, I don’t think we realised quite how many producers there are.
After breakfast on Saturday the 11th the return was the reverse journey arriving back in Burton at 5.30 p.m. after enjoying some very good meals and very nice wines..!!!
