Avril 2008 - No 2

Vendredi, le 18 Avril                          Quiz Night - “The Intellectuals” - John Hooper

This was a truly splendid quiz, which John had magnanimously prepared for us all at obscenely short notice; with questions and pictures projected on to our big screen. All questions had a French theme and were by no means easy. Feedback from those present was that it was most enjoyable event and a vote of thanks was given to John for all his hard work and to Malcolm for helping out.

The evening meal was cheese and salad - and this was very well received.

Vendredi, le 16 May                          Assemblée Général Annuel - et La France Médiévale.

The AGM, we will be followed by a presentation from Mme. Phil Ogden who will talk about La France Médiévale.

At the AGM, members due to retire (and eligible for re-election) are:-

·     David Swain (Chairman)                              Gerald Lomas (Vice Chairman)

·     Malcolm Holden (Secretary)                        Joan Holden and Tony Fenwick (Committee).

Denis Scattergood, who has served the Club magnificently as Treasurer would like to retire if anyone is willing to take over. If you wish to stand for this important position or if would like join the Committee in any other capacity then please let Malcolm know.

Food for the evening will be a charcuterie with a vegetarian option. Entrance fee will be £4.00 per person. Wine will be available at 50 pence per glass - or bring your own. A raffle will be held.

Film show - Samedi 17 Mai 2008

The next film (probably the last in the series for the current year) - is ‘La Vie en Rose (La Môme)’ - the life story of Edith Piaf. This is a ‘top of the range’ 5 star movie released in June 2007, which has won over 30 film awards.

“It is a beautifully directed, thoroughly engaging biopic, about one of the twentieth century's most fascinating artists and Marion Cotillard's performance (as Edith Piaf) is nothing short of astonishing. One of the best films of the year. Highly recommended.” (BBC Film critic)

Edith Piaf was born in 1915, spent her early years blind from conjunctivitis and was raised in a brothel. She became internationally famous after the war but, tragically, died in 1963 at the age of 47.

En Plein Air - Samedi le 21 Juin 2008

Important - would those planning to go on this walk please let Gerald Lomas know - 01283 845615 - so that a meal can be arranged for the appropriate numbers.

The next Committee Meeting will be on Saturday 17 May in the Priory Centre at 5:30 p.m. before the film show.
