Equality Act 2010
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 was replaced by the new Equality Act
which became law on 1 October 2010.
The Equality Act 2010 puts a greater obligation on website owners and hosts to ensure that visually imparied visitors
to a website are not discriminated against. Under previous legislation a website had to pass the test that it was
not impossible or unreasonably difficult" for a disabled user to access. Under the Equalities Act 2010, the bar has been raised
to the effect that a visitor must not be put at a "substantial disadvantage", compared to a non-disabled user.
This website has been designed to comply with the requirements of the Equalities Act 2010 - by ensuring that it is
easily accessible to visitors who are visually impaired:-
The website uses ‘Verdana’ size 2 (10 pt) fonts in black / dark colours on a white background. This is the
benchmark combination and also ensures that users with colour blindness are not disadvantaged.
All images on this website are supported by ‘alt text’.
Instructions for increasing font sizes are:-
In Microsoft Internet Explorer:
1. Select ''Text Size'' from the ''View'' menu.
2. Select from the list of predefined text sizes ranging from ''Largest'' to ''Smallest''
Alternatively the text size can be changed in many browsers by holding down
the ''Ctrl'' key (PC) and using a mouse scroll wheel to increase or decrease text size.
