Trip to La Rochelle - May 2008"Nine travel further into France" This years trip went further and for longer; we left at midday on Saturday 3 May for the 8.30pm ferry from Portsmouth to St. Malo. After breakfast on board, Sunday was spent travelling with leisurely stops for coffee and lunch arriving in plenty of time to unpack, freshen up and go for dinner. Monday was at leisure in La Rochelle and, as every evening, meeting to go out for dinner. Tuesday we travelled East, stopping at Surgeres for coffee, the Saintes for lunch and exploration. On Wednesday we went South on the coast road to Fouras for coffee and the Fort, then on to Rochefort for lunch. In the afternoon we went via the Pont Transbordeur to Brouage, a delightful walled village that warrants a longer visit. Thursday called us West! Via “The End of the World” to the Ile de Re where we spent the day exploring La Flotte – St. Martins and Ars. On Friday after a leisurely breakfast we had to go North! After stops on route, Dinner was had in Ouistreham before boarding to overnight to Portsmouth, and all safely back home by lunch time on Saturday the 10th.
